Narrative Description of Project:
Policy Innovation Systems for Clean Energy Security (PISCES) was a 5-year DFID funded Energy Research Programme Consortium (RPC) that aimed at contributing to innovation and providing new policy-relevant knowledge in the energy sector - leading to better practice and ultimately impacts helping the poor in developing countries. The PISCES research program focused on the development of new knowledge and policies promoting sustainable livelihoods and energy access through bio-energy. Members of the consortium were African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) which was the lead partner, University of Edinburgh, Practical Action Consulting (UK, East Africa and South Asia), the University of Dar es Salaam and the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) of India. PISCES has conducted baseline studies in rural Tanzania which identified energy sources, type of technology and appliances used etc.
Services Provided by ENVICON:-
- Assist Research Coordinator in Tanzania on day to day activities of the research work;
- Carry out baseline survey in selected areas in Tanzania to identify sources and quantity of energy used by rural communities for cooking and lighting;
- Carry out survey to identify type and level of energy technology and appliances used in rural areas;
- Conduct stakeholder identification and engagement;
- Conduct kitchen performance test for developed cooking technologies produced by the research.
- Carry out dissemination of research products and findings.
