Prof Karoli Nicholas Njau holds BSc. Hons from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, majoring Process Engineering. He later did his Master degree in Chemical Engineering at the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH) Trondheim, Norway. Prof. Njau did his PhD studies at the Technical University Eindhoven, in the Netherlands.
He is currently an Associate Professor and Dean of School of Material, Energy, Water and Environmental Science and Engineering (MEWES) of the Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology. Prof. Njau is an educator, researcher, leader, and an international consultant on chemical and process engineering; environmental science and engineering; water resource management, industrial ecology; and renewable and clean energy.
He has participated in a number of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary projects/research projects and consultancy services related to:
- Planning, design and construction supervision of innovative treatment and management of industrial and domestic effluents
- Assessment and establishment of environmental management system in industries
- Water quality analysis, treatment and quality studies
- River flow assessment and development of watershed management
- Integrated water resources management
- Facilitation of water sanitation and hygiene
- Sustainable management of natural resources for the improvement of livelihoods
- Promotion of renewable and clean energy
- Planning, design and construction supervision of innovative technology for treatment and supply potable water to the rural community
- and Feasibility and baseline studies.
Prof Njau is one of ENVICON founder members of and he is the Chief Executive Officer of the Organization.
